This piece was done on bristol board instead of the paper I had been using. I loved the way the pencil handled on paper, but the watercolor-- not so much. And pencil on watercolor paper felt too rough. The bristol seems a nice compromise.
It's okay-- I've used the bristol for years with my maps, because it's great for pen and ink. It's not as good for watercolor as actual WC paper-- you can't manipulate the paint as much-- but it's a decent compromise. (I tried inking on all sorts of WC paper and couldn't get the line I wanted.) For these BW pieces I wanted the smoothness of the board for the pencil. The paper I HAD been working on was wonderful for pencil, and awful for paint!

Thanks, Christine!
Of course, I'm looking at it and thinking-- should have done this or that different... Oh well, what else is new?! ;-)
Wonderful! I really like your cross hatching!
Are you saying you like bristol for watercolor, too? I just bought a sheet yesterday to experiment with.
Thank you, Tom!
