Dept. of Miscellaneous (Good) Stuff

Hmmm... haven't been posting much art lately. There's just not enough time in each day to do everything, and I've been working on making progress with a new picture book idea. Slow going, this one, with lots of bits and pieces to puzzle out, but it's coming along.

Also still forging ahead with NaNoWriMo and PiBoIdMo. They've become part of my beloved early-morning-with-coffee routine. I'm up to 11,571 words for NaNo-- way behind the count needed to hit 50,000 words by the end of the month-- but still possibly more than I've ever written on one project in my life, so I'm feeling pretty good about it. More on that another time.

And in the Department of Good News: Can't say too much yet, but I've been commissioned to illustrate the cover and B/W interior of a new middle grade novel! Happy dance time!

Congratulations on the MG novel project! (Is this the one you told me about at CBIG?)

I'm doing PiBoidMo and NaNoWriMo this month too. It's nice to know that I'm not the only insane one ;) Good luck with both! One more week to go.

BTW, is that how you sketch out / thumbnail your PB dummies? That's great! I have trouble doing that way, but I love seeing it when others post theirs (if I remember right, Marla Frazee does hers that way too).

... Speaking of CBIG, I was on the site today because I had update my portfolio and I clicked on your link. I love the illustration you have up there! It's really great, composition, cat characters, the house, everything. I hadn't seen it before.

Thanks, Stephanie! Yes, same gig. :-)

I usually do a ton of tiny sketches first and then see how they'll fit into the flow of the story... that's what this is. Now I'm enlarging everything and filling in details... taking forever!

Did you make 50,000 words? I'm sure I won't, but have been writing almost every day. It's a start!

Congratulations on writing on your novel a bit every day! That's the way to get it done, and probably have it make more sense than most NaNo novels!

I'm still hoping to finish with 50k. Not sure if I'll make it, but I think I will (crossing my fingers, which makes it hard to type).

Speaking of NaNo, it's frying my brain. After shutting off the computer last night, I realized that the cat image on CBIG is (I think) the same image I told you I liked the last time I saw you. :P I still like it as much as I did the first time I saw it, maybe more!

Good luck with your sketches and filling in the details! I tried to do a PB that way once. It's a pretty scary story, or funny if you're not me, and still ongoing.

I really like seeing work in progress like this - book layouts and mockups, initial sketches etc.
